Types of Lenses
Prescription lenses today include options for each patient’s vision needs and lifestyle. York Road Opticians will help you select lenses that provide you with the best possible vision for work and play.
- Plastic or Glass Lenses
Plastic lenses are light in weight and can be treated for ultraviolet (UV) and glare protection. Glass lenses are still available but are heavier and are more prone to breakage.
- High-Index Lenses
Thinner and more lightweight, these are a comfortable and attractive choice, providing optimal vision even in stronger prescriptions.
- Polycarbonate and Trivex Lenses
A good choice for athletes, industrial workers and children, these lenses are thin and lightweight. They have built-in UV protection and offer superior impact resistance.
Specialized Corrective Lenses
- Bifocal Lenses
These lenses correct near and far vision in a single lens, with a visible line separating the distance viewing segment above and the near viewing segment below.
- Trifocal Lenses
A multi-focal lens with three specific focal points: distance, near, and “arm’s length”/ intermediate viewing. Trifocal lenses have two visible lined segments.
- Progressive Lenses (Shamir, Varilux)
A no-line multi-focal lens with a continuous viewing range, from near to intermediate to distance. Technology in recent years has greatly improved progressive lens design, increasing the size of the near and intermediate segments needed for today’s demanding visual environment.
- Transition Photochromatic Lenses
These lenses quickly darken in sunlight and become clear indoors, so you don’t have to switch between glasses and sunglasses. These lenses are available in a wide variety of colors and intensity levels for style as well as performance.
This is a polarized Transition lens that senses and reacts to varying light conditions, both outdoors and behind the windshield of a car.
- Polarized Lenses
Protects your eyes from reflected glare, UV light and eye fatigue. Polarized lenses are ideal for water sports, snow sports and driving because they virtually eliminate all types of glare.
- Anti-Reflective Treatment
Decreases reflections and halos around lights, providing a safety benefit for those who drive at night. Treatment also reduces eye strain for those who work with bright computer screens or under fluorescent lights. The latest treatment methods offer superior scratch resistance and resistance to smudging.
- Blue Light Protective Treatment
Blue light -- that part of the light spectrum emitted from such sources as digital devices and LED lighting -- is blamed for eye strain, headaches and sleep disruptions. Protective treatment on eyeglass lenses can decrease exposure to blue light.
York Road Opticians guarantees our frames and lenses for one full year, replacing defective materials at no additional cost. Lifetime adjustments and minor repairs are free for eyewear purchased at York Road Opticians.
If you are not one hundred percent satisfied with your frame selection, you may exchange them within 30 days. If you cannot adjust to your lenses within 90 days, and your doctor determines a change is necessary, we will provide new lenses at no charge.
Our opticians provide instruction for first-time wearers of progressive lenses, but some patients need additional time to adjust. If you cannot adapt within 90 days, you may exchange them for conventional bifocals or trifocals at no extra charge.
York Road Opticians is a provider for the following vision plans: Davis Vision, Eye-Med, VSP (Vision Service Plan), and VBA (Vision Benefits of America). We are a Premier provider for VSP, which allows for members to maximize their benefits with additional allowances. As a convenience, York Road Opticians can complete insurance reimbursement forms on behalf of our patients.
After each cataract surgery, Medicare covers a portion of the cost of basic bifocal or trifocal, reading or single-vision distance lenses and provides an allowance towards the cost of a frame. Exclusions: progressive, polycarbonate, Transition and polarized lenses, anti-reflective treatments, tints and designer frames. We will submit any supplemental insurance for costs that Medicare does not cover, but the patient is responsible for any remaining charges.
Keystone 65 provides coverage after cataract surgery. Patients pay York Road Opticians and submit forms for reimbursement. Many other plans also offer similar reimbursement for eyewear purchased following cataract surgery.
